School of Business

In 1968, the Istanbul University Business School found its initial establishment within the Beyazıt campus. However, it relocated to the Rumeli Hisarüstü Campus in 1983. Finally, in 1989, it settled into its current and permanent location, the Avcılar campus.

The roots of Istanbul University can be traced back to the year 1453 when it was originally established. Richard Honig, a German law historian, argues that the history of Istanbul University can be linked to March 1st, 1321. The university's initial establishment, located in the main building of present-day Istanbul University, resembled Roman universities, encompassing faculties of medicine, law, philosophy, and humanities. It is considered a pioneering institution in providing university education in Istanbul, integrating Byzantine and Ottoman traditions.

The Istanbul University Institute of Business Economics, founded in 1954 with the collaboration of Harvard Business School, holds the distinction of being Europe's first institution to offer graduate programs. This institute laid the groundwork for Turkey's first Business School, the Istanbul University Business School (IUBS), which was established in 1968. Presently, the IUBS encompasses the Institute of Business Economics, offering graduate programs in both MSc and MBA. Additionally, various Ph.D. programs are conducted within the IUBS under the auspices of the Institute of Social Sciences.
